The Merisik Festival is a traditional Malaysian wedding custom.

The Merisik Reception

The first step in the malaysian bridal tradition is known as merisik. In order to officially request the woman’s hand in marriage, the man’s family makes a visit to her home. This enables both people to get to know one another better. A special type of gold necklace known as” cincin belah rotan,” which is worn to show her commitment to the wedding, may be presented to her home if she accepts the proposal.

The boy’s family will wait for several weeks to see how the bride– to-be responds once the merisik is over. This is a significant component of the bridal history because it demonstrates how the man’s family values the person’s choice.

The bridegroom will ultimately travel to see his bride-to-be again. He’ll be accompanied by his friends and family’s drum-beating procession, the kompang. Additionally, they’ll be carrying bunga manggar, finger petals made of ornaments that represent prosperity and health, on willow wires.

The groom’s parents did greet him at her home once he’s arrived. Subsequently they’ll transfer him to the pelamin, a seat set in the center of the bersanding meeting. The few will sit and eat their second meals jointly as husband and wife, where they will spend the rest of the day treated like royalty. The few will become surrounded by their customers, who are eager to accept their blessings or pose for photos with them during this period.
